These are some experiences shared by different user.
On december me and my gf visited a oyo property . There was police raid and the police took me and oyo manager for enquiry. The police told me that that this particular oyo property is notorious for indulging in anti social activities. I tried to convince the police that we both are willing to show the id cards but they did not listen. After two hours i requested the sho that we did not know about the nature of hotel since it was booked online and was left free after 2 hours. When i contacted oyo customer care ragrding this these idiots told that "this wont happen again and returned my money without an geneuinity." Today when i was crossing this hotel by my bike i still found it fucntioning. many will not post these type of inccidents in social media due to the fear of social repurcussions. even i have posted it through a newly created profile. so guys beware. these guys just frauds and pigs who think only about money. dont fall into unnecessary situations. it was very disastraous that night.
Yes there definitely is. I have experienced this first hand when I was staying with my partner a couple of weeks ago in an Oyo room for unmarried couples that was booked through the relationship mode of the app. It even mentioned while booking that couples are welcomed. We had stayed previously in the same hotel without any hassle so we thought it was safe. The hotel staff were friendly and courteous when we checked in, everything was smooth until the doorbell for our room rang in the middle of the night. It was the cops. We couldn’t believe an actual police raid was taking place. One of the cops did try to make us nervous by asking us if we were married or not. We were asked to show our ids and they even took a picture of my partner! However they left us alone after that and nothing else happened.
I guess this mostly happens in small budget hotels which are mostly available in Oyo especially in the relationship mode app. The receptionist then mentioned that couples were in fact not allowed, after the raid! When we had correctly booked the room through “relationship mode”.
As the police is well within their right to raid whatever place if they have the slightest suspicions of illegal activity, there’s nothing much you can do about it except comply with whatever they demand. In our case we were lucky to have been let off easy. It would be best to opt for reputed 5 star hotels and check in by showing your Govt. provided ID. However even 5 star hotels are not immune to police raids but are generally safer.
And when we confronted Oyo, we just got a “We regret the inconvenience caused”
Police only raids shady low budget hotels and that too if you are not registered in the hotel guest book. You need to present a valid govt ID of yourself and your partner's in original at the time of checkin and have yourself legally registered in the guest book. If you don't do that, it gives the police a reason to check whether you are hiding something or is the hotel hiding something. At the most as a routine, the police always checks the hotel guest book which is provided by the police itself. The hotels have to show that but that is also only to see whether everyone has provided ID.
